Behind every steering wheel is a family — a letter to drivers before 9.9

Four in the morning, a truck pulls out of the yard while the city is still asleep. The person at the wheel doesn’t think of it as important work — they think that finishing this run covers the children’s school fees. CD Restop is writing this to say something few people say to drivers: a safe journey doesn’t begin at the wheel, it begins where the driver gets to rest. 9 September 2026 is the day that commitment goes on paper.

“Every driver is carrying a family” — the CD Restop campaign visual addressed to the person behind the wheel. Activation day: 9 September 2026.

Four in the morning. A truck pulls out of the yard while the city is still asleep. In the cab there is a half-empty bottle of water, a lunchbox bought the night before, and a photo taped crooked on the dashboard — two small children and a woman, smiling.

The person at the wheel doesn’t think of it as important work. They think: finish this run, and there’s enough for the children’s school fees this month.

We’re writing this to say something few people say to drivers: behind every steering wheel there is a family. And a safe journey doesn’t begin at the wheel — it begins where the driver gets to rest.

On the road, the scarcest thing isn’t fuel

Anyone who runs long-haul knows this better than most. Fuel you can find anywhere. The hard part is finding a decent place to stop.

A place to lie down for thirty minutes without folding yourself over the driver’s seat. A clean bathroom to splash your face awake. A proper glass of water instead of a hurried coffee at the roadside. A socket to charge your phone — because a call home shouldn’t depend on the last bar of battery. A place with people in it, with the lights on, so the tiredness feels less lonely.

These things sound very small. Added up, they are the line between a safe trip and a trip that pushes another hundred kilometres because there was nowhere to stop.

Resting is not falling behind

The 2024 Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety says that drivers of commercial and in-house transport vehicles may not drive for more than 4 hours at a stretch. That number was written down after a great many things had already happened on the road.

But the law only says you must rest. It doesn’t say where to rest. And in practice, the gap between those two sentences is a stretch of road drivers have to work out alone: pull onto the shoulder, cut the engine, tip the seat back, set the phone alarm for twenty minutes, then carry on.

We think that gap belongs to the people who build infrastructure, not to the person at the wheel. If there’s a law telling drivers to rest, there has to be somewhere to rest — and we’re taking that part on. That’s why CD Restop exists, and it’s written straight into the company’s legal name: Social Infrastructure Investment.

One stop, enough of the simple things

Six service components of a CD Restop stop: nutritious drinks, comfortable nap rooms, clean showers, phone charging, driver community, charging points for vehicles
A CD Restop stop is designed around one question: what does a driver need in order to take the next stretch safely. The scale of each component varies from stop to stop.

We didn’t build a charging station and then bolt a few chairs onto it. We went the other way round: start with the person, and only then the equipment.

At a CD Restop stop, the order of priority is health to go further — safety on every journey — energy for a new day — a community always beside you. The charging point is one part of the stop, not the reason it exists. While the vehicle takes on power, the driver gets to refill too. That’s the whole idea.

And there’s one thing harder to build than a roof or a place to lie down, which we believe matters most: somewhere for drivers to meet each other. Driving is a lonely trade. Thousands of kilometres alone, eating alone, sleeping alone in the cab. A table to sit down at with someone in the same job, to ask which stretch is jammed, to ask about insurance, about paperwork — that’s sometimes worth more than a night’s sleep.

Why 9.9

On 9 September 2026, in Ho Chi Minh City, CD Restop, SPT Group and partners sit down to sign a strategic cooperation agreement to develop the Scharge system of driver stops and smart charging stations.

Honestly: there will be no drivers in the hall that day. There will be suits, cameras, documents laid out on a draped table. Ceremonies like that look a long way from a cab at four in the morning.

But every signature that day comes back to something very close at hand: somewhere for drivers to stop. Signing so this doesn’t end at a proposal — so someone is answerable for building it, someone answerable for running it, on every stretch of road. Without those signatures, a promise stays a promise.

That’s why we call 9.9 an activation day. Not an opening day — stops don’t spring up after a ceremony. It’s the day a commitment goes on paper and someone takes responsibility for it. The day the clock starts.

A word to the drivers

We know you’ve heard plenty of promises. We also know that what convinces someone who drives for a living isn’t an article — it’s a shower with hot water at eleven at night.

So we’re not asking you to believe us right away. We’re asking one thing: rest. When you feel tired, stop, even if there’s no stop of ours on that route yet. Don’t push for the last hundred kilometres. At home someone is counting the hours until you’re back, and not one of them needs you back early — they just need you back.

The rest is our job: building the stops one at a time, starting with the routes you drive most, and saying what we’ve done as we do it. Counting from 9.9.

Stop a while to steady your heart, for journeys that mean more.
